Chapter 10: Dinner Table Conversation
as a Way of Being a Church

There is a tension between between holistic and being slow. The metaphor of a shared meal and the conversation that engenders is suggested as a way to balance those tensions.

THE CULTURE OF THE TABLE. When a family eats together, the children learn lessons about listening, talking, new vocabulary etc. Perhaps this model could used in the church as well.

EATING CHRIST TOGETHER. How communion and its roots should effect the way we eat together.

THE PRACTICE OF CONVERSATION. Conversation should be an important part of our church’s decision making process.

POTLUCK WORSHIP.

DECISION MAKING BY CONSENSUS.

LEARNING TO BE A CONVERSATIONAL CHURCH.

SCRIPTURE AND THE DINNER TABLE CONVERSATION. “Scripture, for the slow church, is like water for a fish.”
