Chapter 6: God of Prayer
Prayer has always been central the Jewish life.
Models of Prayer
The Pray-er. For Jews, Hannah is the model pray-er. Her prayer comes from the heart and is intensely persona.
The Prayer. After the destruction of the temple, rabbis were confronted for the need for a new way to worship. One thing they did was define prayers that are said to this day in Jewish congregations.
When to Pray
The Prayers: Daily Weekly Sabbath. The structure is praise, intercession, and thanksgiving.
The Times of Prayer. Jews pray three times a day: morning, afternoon, and evening.
Holidays and Festivals.
Women and Prayer in Judaism
In traditional Judaism, women are not required to do the daily prayers and are not even required to attend the synagogue. However, the modern Jewish traditions have begun to incorporate women and there are now even women rabbis.
