How Much Did Jesus Know and When Did He Know it?

Rohr explores this question in relation to the two texts for today. The OT text is another of the servant chapters from Isaiah and clearly depicts a suffering servant. Jesus knew he was going to suffer.

In the NT text, he seems to know ahead of time that Judas would betray and basically tells him so. But, does he know the play-by-play account of the rest of what was going to happen? A common belief is, as Rohr puts it, "“He did not really have to live faith or darkness as we do, he knew everything from his youngest years”. Have we emphasized his divine nature so much that his humanity is overshadowed? Somehow, it helps me more to know that he had to suffer both the pain and the indignity of the following events, but was also not totally sure of the final outcome and that he had to proceed by faith.

Rohr sums it up for me, “Faith is so much more that strong will power.”

“Faithful Jesus, your faith was tried just like mine, but even more. Yet you trusted that you would not be put to shame, and ‘into God’s hands you entrusted your spirit.’ Give me courage to do the same in the time of trial.”
