The first creation story is making the point that God’s people tell the creation story different than other cultures. There is no death and violence, no scapegoats. "Creation is not an act that occurs as violence or retribution, but as grace, ordered and beautiful.”
Being created in the image of God in Genesis 1 is about relationships. We were created in relationship, not as individual entities.
Why Are There Two Creation Stories? There are real differences between the 2 stores. The portrait of God changes. Equality in version one is changed to male hierarchy. There is no prohibition in the first one, but in the second one it is a hint to the victimize process.In the story of the temptation, notice that the word Satan is never mentioned. The serpent represents the object of object-mediated desire. Banishment from the garden was a redemptive move by God, not punishment.
