Son

14: Son

Bell recounts the story of Abraham showing how it is what early religion expected and why. But, then he points out the twist in the story and says “Abraham is on the joke.”

Why the charade.

  1. The drama is the point. The audience would have been familiar with this story. But, then it’s not. The familiarity is disrupted by unexpected behavior by God.
  2. The God in this story provides. Expectations were for the people to give (sacrifice) to the gods. This God provides.
  3. And God tells him this is just the start. Through Abraham all people on the earth will be blessed. And all Abraham needs to do is have trust, faith, and belief. No sacrifice needed.

That is why this story is so revolutionary
