23: All Things Are Yours
Paul says in 1 Cor. 3 that "all things are yours.” The point in the context is that truth comes from various sources, both human and non-human, religious and non-religious. “Wherever you find truth, not just through teachers like him and Peter and Apollos, but also whatever helps you grow, however your mind and heart are opened to what God is doing in the world, whatever ways or people or events God uses to teach you truth—affirm it, claim it, own it. It’s all yours.”
Some thoughts:
- If people say the Bible is shallow, they probably haven’t read it.
- All truth is from God. The phrase God’s truth is redundant.
- Wherever you find truth, affirm and claim it.
- You can also deny that which is not truthful. “… Some Christians are full of shit.”
- The whole thing is grounded in Christ.
<This begs the question—does each person get to define truth?>
Why doe it matter? The Bible has enduring power to help us change, to step into a better future.
