Chapter 2: Building Castles in the Clouds
Wess makes the case that it is critical to encourage and involve children at an early age. He talks about how the children in his African village were responsible for keeping the animals out of the crops, bringing home dove to eat, and other things. He gives the the example of how his Dad involved him in various ways.
There are several paths available to adults who want to engage with children
- Go to them. Enter their world. In spite of how silly it might be, enter into their world. Drink their tea, play with them in their world.
- Bring them into your world. Take them with you. Let them help, even if it means slowing down and not getting it quite right. <Great story about his premature daughter.>
- Merge the two worlds. God’s instructions at the end of the 10 commandments in Deut. 6:6-9 have it just right.
