All Controversies Can Be Resolved by an Appeal to Authority
The gospel passage is about which camp are you in? Nicodemus wonders about giving Jesus a fair hearing and the response is check him out—no good thing comes from Galilee. This entrenchment in camps is so similar to the culture we live in today with all its spin and tabloid journalism.
I like what Rohr said about fundamentalism. "The fundamentalist is more than anything else one who believes that all problems can be resolved by an appeal to authority. No inner life is necessary, no faith journey, no actual experience; someone else can do all my homework for me. 'I do not need to take responsibility for my own life, someone higher will,’ they seem to say."
