The Psalms are full of examples of “hating” those that hate God or are evil. that is a dangerous attitude and not like the example of Jesus. But, how do we react to people who are leading immoral lives, or are evil and we come into contact with them. Sometimes silence is the best technique. Avoiding contact is also a strategy that works since we may not have the skills and temperament to not succumb to the temptation of being in the company of immoral people. Sometimes we must speak out, and if that makes us priggish, so be it.
There are also a set of warnings about the sins of the tongue. Phrases like "deceitful lips" are pervasive in the Psalms. This is the world we know, and we are called to avoid such sins.
