7: Love Shares

While it sounds like Paul is complaining about how hard he works to make a living, he is really showing a generosity to his house churches who were likely not rich. “Love — and this is one of the most notable features of Paul’s entire life — shares with others as generously as possible.”

LOVE BENEFITS OTHERS. One of Pauls passions was raising money for the poor in Jerusalem. Over 10 years, he talked about it, and collected money. In the new Christian community, sharing financially with others was an important demonstration of God’s love.

EACH ACCORDING TO MEANS. A story about a Hutterite family and their generosity.

FUNDS FOR FELLOWSHIP. Eight principles of Christian charity from Paul:

  1. Christian love involves sharing our resources with need Christians.
  2. Sharing resources is shaped by generosity.
  3. Sharing resources is an act of love.
  4. Sharing resources is modeled on the life of our Lord King, Jesus.
  5. Sharing resources is about the intentional act, not the amount.
  6. Sharing resources aims at equality.
  7. Sharing resources is for any in need.
  8. Sharing resources results in God’s glory.
