Chapter 7

Naming the Risen Lord: Embodied Discipleship and Masculinity
Amy Laura Hall

Greeting. A story of a hurried, tetchy path to worship on a Sunday morning.

  • The Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.  Given the state of the parishioners, there can be no doubt that we are humans with sicknesses and sins.
  • The Risen Christ is with us. Praise the Lord! When we enter the doors of the church, we become part of one messy, yet holy, body.

Gender. Hall challenges the idea that the churches care of people is best suited for women and says that real change will have to come from men.

Masculinity. To some extent, masculinity has been defined by the superhero characters in movies and literature. That idea is counter to the sustained engagement that much work in the church requires.

About a Man. The story or Will in Nick Hornby's novel "About a Boy".

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you. The risen Christ is with us. Praise the Lord! "Discipleship, adequately formed, will lead us to be aligned with precisely the losers that our life is set up to avoid."
