The Pain of Betrayal

The OT  text is another of the servant songs. The feeling of betrayal is put into words in verse 4: “I  have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and vanity …” This is how we fell when we have invested in someone and then they betray us.

Jesus feels that in the NT text where he predicts Judas’ betrayal and sets it in  motion. And, then he tell Peter he will betray him 3 times. Jesus is getting more and more isolated as the week goes on. Still, he doesn’t get bitter over this betrayal, but just describes in an unblaming way. If only I could react so graciously.

Prayer for today. “Solitary Jesus, you get more alone as the week goes on, till all you have is a naked but enduring hope in God. Do not bring me to such a test, I would not know how to survive.”
