Chap 24: Becoming One Flesh

Becoming one Flesh: Marriage, Remarriage, and Sex
David Matzko McCarthy

"Christian marriage is a particular kind of grace-filled friendship within the fellowship of the church.

The Tie that Unwinds. Courtship has evolved over the years into a market driven activity symbolized by the date. The switch from the freedom of dating to the unconditional love of marriage is often a harsh transition. Studies have shown that cohabitation is not the answer either.

The Tie that Binds. In the church, the basic practices that make for a good marriage are the same for clergy, single people, and cloistered contemplatives. The focus in the NT is not marriage but discipleship.

One Bread, One Body. Even though many people get married in church without being church attenders, the very fact that they are there bestow grace on them even if they are not aware of it at the moment.

Indissolubility, , Dissolution, and Remarriage. Marriages should not be dissolved purely as a private matter, if they are truly a marriage in the church. Annulment is a determination that the original marriage was lacked valid form or lacked valid consent.

Conclusion and Sex.
