Part 5: Jesus and the Jesus Creed
Chap. 25: In the Jordan with Jesus
Sometimes we need some to pave the way for us.
JESUS LIVED FOR US. Jesus substitutes for us, or represents us before God in his love of God and of others.
JOHN AND JESUS AT JORDAN. John's baptism was for repentance. Jesus didn't need to repent. So, why was Jesus baptized? If he doesn't need to repent, he much be repenting for others, for us.
A CREED OF PERFECT REPENTANCE. There is only reason for Jesus to repent for us: We can't repent adequately. We need Jesus' repentance because we don't know our hearts truly.
REPENTANCE AND THE DOVE OF FORGIVENESS. A true confession, like Jesus could make, triggers God's gift of renovation through the Spirit.
A REPENTANCE FOR WHICH WE ARE TO BE THANKFUL. We need to be thankful for the repentance that Jesus had enabled for us.
Chap 26: In the Wilderness with Jesus
Every vocation is tested by God.
BUT FIRST A TEST. Even Jesus' vocation was tested with being tempted in the wilderness. "A vocation from God is tested by God." <I would ask, "where is that written?">
IN THE WILDERNESS FOR US. "Jesus is tempted in the wilderness for a reason: He must relive Israel’s wilderness tests and pass those tests, so he can enter into the Land as the obedient Israelite—and do so for us. Israel fails, and another generation enters the Land. Jesus succeeds, and he enters the Land with and for his own people."
IN THE WILDERNESS WITH JESUS. Jesus went to the wilderness for us. But, we are called to repent and to be obedient.
IN THE WILDERNESS WITH JESUS TODAY. When we are impatient with our lives, we need to think about Jesus in the wilderness.
