For Lewis, the “most valuable thing the Psalms do … is to express that same delight in God which made David dance.” There was no separation between the festivals in the temple and worship of God. Once the mind is capable of separating them, there is a danger that the rite becomes a substitute for God. We need more of the joy and delight in God that we read in the Psalms. We owe a debt to the most "jocund Psalms."
