Chapter 3: It Really Does Take a Village.
The American community has mostly died. We are isolated and we teach our children that isolation.
All Together. In contrast the African village where Wess grew up was a community. There were not fences or property lines. food was prepared communally. Bathing was done in one spot, with no embarrassment or staring.
In the Lap of Community. The evenings spent around the fire at the chief’s hut. Drums, drums, drums.
Breaking Down Walls. The church has largely segregated itself by age. While age appropriate education has its value, much is lost by not integrating age groups much of the time.
